Students celebrated 'outstanding' results at a school in Chingford yesterday.

The 16-year-olds at Normanhurst School in Station Road, Chingford, bucked the national trend and saw an increase in the percentage of pupils achieving A* and A grades.

Staff at the school have highlighted its top performers as Julian, who achieved 10 A* and A grades, Emily and Rehaan with eight A* and A grades each and Osian and Taylor who recieved seven A* and A grades.

Results in every subject saw an increase in the number of top grades awarded.

Head Teacher Claire Osborn said: “Many students this year have risen to the challenge of achieving good GCSE grades, particularly with the increase in difficulty of GCSEs over the past few years.

"It is a just reward for their hard work, together with the hard work of their teachers.

"We are particularly pleased that results in all subjects show an increase in the number of A*/A grades awarded and over 70% of GCSE students achieved at least a grade C English and similar in Maths.

"I am pleased that these results give so many students what they need to proceed to the next stage in their education.

“We are looking forward to seeing how they will build on the successes they have gained so far.”
