A large flytip is set to be removed from a road following a six week closure.

Essex Highways were called on July 16 when the load appeared overnight in Laundry Lane, Waltham Abbey.

A 'thorough investigation' was launched after several phonecalls to Essex County Council regarding the blocked route, which is set to be cleared on Wednesday (August 26).

One business owner situated in Mushroom Park, which is accessed by the closed road, said the 40 day closure had taken away trade from the site.

He said: "Customers cannot get in our out of the area and we have seen a massive loss of trade because of this.

"Why would you dump rubbish like that? Especially in the middle of a busy road.

"It is a joke."

Epping Forest Guardian:

The load was dumped on Laundry Lane, Waltham Abbey, last month.

Sensitive materials including electrical equipment, gas canisters and potentially hazardous chemicals were discovered in the pile.

An Essex Highways spokesperson said: “We have scheduled a specialist waste disposal team to remove the fly-tipped rubbish on Wednesday.

"The waste had to be thoroughly investigated.

"It was suspected to contain sensitive materials including electrical equipment, gas canisters and potentially hazardous chemicals.”
