A school has confirmed a significant increase in A* to C GCSE results.

King Harold Academy School in Broomstick Hall Lane, Waltham Abbey, saw 65 per cent of Year 11 students achieve the grades in at least five subjects when their results were released on Thursday (August 20).

The percentage is a 15 per cent rise on the 50 per cent of A* to C grades achieved in 2014.

Following last year's results, which also saw the percentage of pupils at the school achieving at least five A* to C grades at GCSE including maths and English dropping from 58 to 38 per cent, head teacher Denice Halpin resigned from her post at the school.

She was replaced by Acting Head of School Andrew Parry who congratulated the school on the 2015 increase.

He said: "King Harold Academy is delighted to announce this year’s GCSE results, which show an increase in the performance of our students.

"65 per cent of all Year 11 students achieved A* to C in at least five subjects, with the vast majority of those entered achieving the English Baccalaureate benchmark.

"Most of our subjects have reported an increase in the percentage of students achieving A* to C.

"The results reflect the hard work and determination of all students and staff at King Harold Academy throughout the academic year.

"We offer each and every student our congratulations and continued success in the future.”
