Essex Police are giving residents the chance to name their latest recruit, a three-week-old puppy.

German Shepherd, Flame, gave birth to eight healthy puppies at a unit in Sandon on August 5.

Seven of the new furry recruits have already been named Cilla, Cola, Cairo, Carter, Chester, Cain and Comet based on the litters chosen letter 'C'.

The eighth dog, which was born into the litter of five boys and three girls, has now had a poll opened to determine his name.

Residents votes will decide as to whether the remaining puppy will be named Chaos, Cuba, Casper or Costa.

Epping Forest Guardian:

The puppies were born earlier this month.

The puppies’ mother, Flame, was also named by a member of the public in April 2012 following a competition asking for residents’ help to name her and her brother Boris.

Dog lovers were asked to suggest Olympic-themed names for the new arrivals in honour of the London 2012 games.

Dog Unit Insp Brad Dickel said: "The puppies are all doing well and Flame is proving to be a fantastic mum.

"She was named by a member of the public so it’s fitting that the tradition is carried down to her puppy in this way.

"Members of the public are always really supportive of our police dogs so I’m pleased to give them the chance to have their say on a name for one of our new arrivals.”
