A man has been disqualified from driving for 24 months after losing control of his quad bike and causing a serious collision last year.

Dearon Styles, 34, of Martinsfield Close in Chigwell, appeared in Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Tuesday (August 25) accused of driving his Yahama Quad Bike dangerously in Manor Road, Chigwell, on October 19.

The incident saw Styles lose control while travelling towards Woodford Bridge.

The four-wheeler was first in collision with a white van travelling in the opposite direction and then a black VW people carrier.

Styles was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, where his condition was described as critical.

Despite pleading not guilty to the offence during a hearing in March, the 33-year-old was convicted of driving dangerously.

He was given a two year driving ban, ordered to undertake community service until February 24 and was given a six month curfew between the hours of 8pm and 7am.

Styles was also ordered to pay a £330 fine, a £60 victim surcharge and £625 in court costs.
