The Leytonstone Big Weekender returns this month promising to tantalise foodies and ska music fans in the borough.

The event will take place on September 12 and 13 to coincide with the finale of the first ever week-long Eat Drink Waltham Forest festival which starts on Monday (September 7).

The festival funded by Waltham Forest council features a variety of free cooking masterclasses and beer and wine tasting throughout the week and a cream pie eating competition with special guest Glenn Cosby from the Great British Bake Off on Sunday (September 13).

Live music at the Big Weekender on the same day includes top ska band The Selecter, Rags Rudi, Fruitful Earth, President Lincoln, and Madness Tribute band 'One Step Behind'.

Council Leader Chris Robbins said the fantastic free event will “bring the community together in celebration.”

He said: “The addition of the Eat Drink Waltham Forest food festival will, I’m sure, go down a treat with food lovers across the borough while Sunday’s car free day will once again open the town centre up to residents wanting to explore everything on offer in a much more relaxing environment.

“The free event and all of the many activities throughout the weekend are part of our ongoing efforts to ensure local people and families continue to enjoy a good quality of life here in Waltham Forest.”
