Ten people were taken to hospital after a bus crashed into a tree at the weekend.

Emergency services including London Fire Brigade (LFB), London Ambulance Services's (LAS) hazardous area response team and London's Air Ambulance (LAA) were called to the scene in Capel Road, Manor Park, on Saturday (August 29) shortly before midday.

The single-decker W19 bus was heading for Walthamstow when it collided with a tree having veered across the wrong side of the road.

Paramedics treated twelve passengers at the scene and ten people in total were taken to hospital.

A LAS spokesman, said: "We sent a number of resources to the scene including six ambulances, four duty officers, our hazardous area response team, London’s Air Ambulance and our emergency planning team.

"Ten patients were taken to hospital.

"Five patients were taken to Whipps Cross Hospital and a further five to the Royal London Hospital.

"Two of those five were taken as priorities - a man believed to be in his forties who was treated for a head injury and a woman believed to be in her sixties who was treated for hip pain."

Two people trapped in the wreckage had to be freed by firefighters, LFB said.

The bus driver has not been arrested and Transport for London has said there will be a full investigation into the crash.

Each of the injured passengers taken to hopsital have sinc been discharged including the man and woman whose injuries "were not found to be life-threatening or changing", the Met Police said.

Police said it is not being treated as suspicious and enquiries continue.
