An ambulance trust saw 999 calls increase by almost 10 per cent this bank holiday weekend.
The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) announced the figures this morning (September 3) and confirmed the seven per cent rise on emergency calls in Essex for 2015.
The trust received 8,444 calls on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday (August 29,30,31) compared to the 7,860 received during the 2014 August bank holiday.
During the long weekend, the EEAST was called to 150 road traffic collisions, 63 cardiac arrests, 983 falls, 446 patients with breathing difficulties, and 472 people with chest pain.
Dave Fountain, a Trust locality director, said: “We were prepared for a busy weekend and we experienced a rise in demand in five of the six counties we cover.
“I’d like to thank our staff and volunteers worked hard to provide the best possible care to patients across the region.”
