Staff at an established hairdressers are to take part in a sponsored walk along the River Lea in aid of a cancer charity.

Hairdressers, stylists, a trainer and the salon owner of Laurence London in Station Road, Chingford, will walk for 10 miles on September 14, to raise money for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.

In total, ten staff and owner, Victor Rosenthal, will collect money as they walk along the canal path from Ware in Hertfordshire to Sun Street  in Waltham Abbey.

The journey is estimated to take them four hours to complete and it is the first time the salon has raised money for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.

So, far they have raised £515 through donations in the shop.

Helen Rollason was a BBC sports presenter who progressed through the ranks of broadcasting after starting off at Essex Radio in 1980.

She was awarded an MBE the same year she died in 1999, aged 43, following a two-year battle with colon cancer.

In memory of her legacy, the charity was founded the same year and has set up three support centres and enabled 3,000 cancer patients to participate in pioneering clinical drug trials.

Staff at Laurence London have been fundraising for various charities, namely Haven House Children's Hospice, for three decades.
