There are severe delays on the A406 this morning due to roadworks that are expected to continue for the next ten days.

Works are being carried out between 5am and 10pm to strengthen the Nightingale Bridge as part of Transport for London's road modernisation plan.

As a result, there are currently severe delays on the North Circular both ways between the M11 junction, Charlie Brown's Roundabout, Redbridge Roundabout and the Crooked Billet Roundabout.

For the next 10 days, all three lanes in both directions have been reduced to a single lane.

There are eastbound queues past Walthamstow to the Cooks Ferry Interchange in Chingford and solid traffic past Ilford and Barking to the A13.

Traffic is also heavy on the M11 back to the M25.

Works are expected to continue until September 15.

TfL is advising drivers to use the M25 instead of the A406 around north east London where possible during this period.
