The sixth annual art trail is set to “bring a community spirit to Wanstead” tomorrow with a dedicated pop-up shop in the high street.

Art Trail Wanstead, with shops, cafés, pubs, restaurants, churches and community centres all displaying artwork, will continue until September 20.

Events include a chance to meet the artists, a puppet show, and even a life drawing class.

Art Group Wanstead, which organises the trail, has also arranged HomeFront, which residents encouraged to displaying artwork in their gardens and front windows.

The pop-up shop, in 149 High Street, will house a giant interactive mapping project with a 2m x 3m map of Wanstead drawn on the wall.

Visitors are encouraged to show their love for the area by doing a good deed for the environment or someone and add a symbol to the wall map to show what they did and where they did it.

Organiser Donna Mizzi expressed her excitement tomorrow’s environment-themed launch, which sees the grand opening of the pop-up shop.

She said: “Having a pop-up shop is amazing.

“It means people can ask us questions about the trail and will give us a presence in the high street.

“It is going to be a great occasion and we cannot wait to get started.

“The Art Trail brings people together and brings a community spirit to Wanstead, people can all have a look at the art.”

This not the only community programme going on in the London suburb from tomorrow, with the exciting Wanstead Fringe and Wanstead Festival also on their way.

The Fringe will start tomorrow with a week of events culminating with the Festival on Christ Church Green on September 13.
