A free tour of Walthamstow will unearth the areas rich musical history as part of this year’s Stow Festival.

During the event musical historian Mark Hart will unveil a number of blue plaques to commemorate some of the significant musical events and spaces the area.

The tour starts outside the EDM cinema in Hoe Street at 12.30pm on Saturday (September 19).

Formerly known as The Granada, the venue could hold almost 3,000 people, and played host to many leading acts of the period including The Beatles, John Coltrane, Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly.

The walking tour will then head down Hoe Street to Forest Road and the Walthamstow Assembly Hall where bands like The Rolling Stones and New Order have performed in the past.

Afterwards, legendary Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam will be in Waterstones in Selborne Walk at 6.30pm to talk about his new book, 'Life After Dark' which celebrates the importance of night clubs and venues.

The fifth annual Stow Festival runs from September 17 to 20 and will boast more than 100 acts in 25 venues around Walthamstow such as cafes, pubs, museums and outdoor spaces.
