New ticket machines and better signs are among 30 days’ worth of improvements being made to Buckhurst Hill tube station.

Works to the station in Victoria Road, Buckhurst Hill, began on Sunday (September 6) following the permanent closure of its ticket windows as part of Transport for London’s plans to modernise the London Underground.

Facilities undergoing renovations include the existing ticket machines, which will soon offer refunds, and customer service, which will be improved by the introduction of new leaflets, maps and signs.

Following the closure of the station’s ticket windows, staff will be placed outside of their office areas and be situated in the ticket hall to help customers.

An Essex District Council spokesman said: “As part of Transport for London’s plans to modernise London Underground, they will be carrying out improvement works at Buckhurst Hill Underground station.

“They will do their best to minimise any disruption or noise during the work.

“Work times may vary during week days and at weekends.

“However, work will mostly take place at night to minimise disruption to customer journeys.

“The ticket windows will not reopen when the work is complete.”
