A controversial plan to build 51 homes on a council-owned garage site is set to face a full council tomorrow.

The East Thames Housing Association plans initially faced the Epping Forest District Council Development Committee on Wednesday (August 5).

If successful the plans will see garages demolished and the erection of 51 properties and 27 parking spaces in Burton Road, Debden.

At the meeting last month, spokeswoman for local residents Marianne Smith-Julier of Torrington Drive spoke out on how the planned four storey blocks of flats would overshadow and dominate the two-storey maisonettes in her road.

Ms Smith-Julier also stated that residents appreciated the need for more housing, and would not have opposed a 3-storey block.

The Loughton Residents Association Plans Group and Loughton Town Council also objected to the scheme which was resubmitted in June after a previous refusal in January.

At the meeting the application was approved by nine votes to six however non-Conservative councillors present made a rare decision to refer the application back to full council in Epping.

The application will now face full council tomorrow evening (September 10) in High Road, Epping.
