Plans to demolish a former club house and erect 20 flats on a golf course have been rejected.
The North Weald Golf Course proposal, which was resubmitted on August 7, was refused permission by Epping Forest District Council’s Area Planning Sub-Committee East at a meeting last night (September 9).
The proposal, which was initially rejected by Epping Forest District Council in April following concerns over the sustainability of the build and its location, was rejected due to a lack of long term sustainability.
If successful the plans would have seen the Rayley Lane club house and Essex Barn demolished to make way for five one-bedroom, 11 two-bedroom and four three-bedroom flats.
A secure bike shed would also have been built on the site and each property would have been provided with a free bicycle.
The refused permission also followed objections from North Weald Parish Council who branded the plans unsustainable and out of character.
Concerns over the location of the build being remote from shops, employment, schools and other facilities were also raised.
