Essex County Council Chairman has written to the Queen to congratulate Her Majesty on becoming the longest-reigning monarch in British sovereign history.
Cllr Norman Hume sent the letter to Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday (September 9) after it was announced that she had reigned longer than her great great grandmother, Queen Victoria, who was on the throne for 63 years and 216 days.
To mark the milestone, Cllr Hume, wrote on behalf of the people of Essex to offer congratulations for her devoted service to the nation.
He said: “Over the decades her Majesty has seen great social and political change throughout the United Kingdom.
“But throughout her reign she has continued to play a central role with a continued emphasis on duty and service.
"The milestone is a wonderful achievement.
“I think it is fitting that we should take this opportunity to acknowledge and give our gratitude for the example she sets.”
