Four people involved in an organised criminal network have been jailed for a total of nine years.

Waltham Forest Safer Neighbourhoods Team officers were patrolling on the Beaumont Estate, Leyton, on June 8 when they noticed 20-year-old Dominic Turner holding a white plastic bag whilst talking to another male.

After seeing the officers, Turner hid the bag and ran from the scene.

He was arrested after a short chase in Leyton Manor Park and was found in possession of a large quantity of cannabis.

Also at the park were a large group of Turner's associates, including Shane Campbell, 30, and Abubakar Issack, 34.

During Turner's detention he shouted to the group, 'Go and get it. Get it out. Go to my house. Get rid of it.'

An officer was assaulted by Turner during his arrest.

Officers immediately attended Turner's home address to carry out a search of the premises.

On arrival they noticed Issack, at the front of the house, handing something to Catherine Golden.

The 54-year-old placed the object in her trouser pocket and was then seen to take a red and blue shopping bag from him.

She walked away from the scene but was stopped a short while later.

Prior to being stopped she discarded the shopping bag next to a parked vehicle.

Officers stopped Gordon and in her trouser pocket they discovered a handgun hidden in a brown sock.

The shopping bag was also recovered and contained 310.24 grams of cannabis.

This was seized during the investigation.

Police continued to conduct a search of the address but Turner's mother, Debra Muhammad, initially refused them entry.

Mohammed and Campbell, who was also at the address, were both arrested.

Appearing in Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday (August 7), Issack, Golden, Campbell and Muhammad were all sentenced.

Abubakar Issack of Capworth Street, Leyton, was found guilty of possession of a firearm and perverting the course of justice.

He was jailed for five years.

Catherine Golden of Capworth Street, Leyton, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, suspended for two years after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm on 24 June 2014.

Shane Campbell, 30, of Wallwood Road, Leytonstone, and Debra Muhammad, 51, of Skeltons Lane, Leyton, were both found guilty of perverting the course of justice and jailed for 12 months.

Dominic Turner of Skeltons Lane, Leyton, was the first to be sentenced on November 19.

He was imprisoned for a total of five and a half years' for the possession of a firearm, possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and assault police.

Detective Constable Haroun Mason, from the Metropolitan Police, Trident Gang Command, said: This case was part of a complex ongoing operation by Trident officers to target organised criminal networks.

"With the help of local Waltham Forest officers we have been able to disrupt their criminal activity.

"The prison terms handed down by the court should act a strong deterrent to those involved in drug and gun crime."
