SCHOOLGIRLS have been praised for their “exceptional achievements” by the Mayor of London.

Boris Johnson has invited Walthamstow School for Girls to join the Mayor of London’s Gold Club for London schools for the coming year.

The Mayor has written to Meryl Davies, headteacher at WSFG, inviting her to join the Gold Club and thanking her “for all you do for the children in your school and for your support of all London’s children”.

"This is an honour for WSFG," Ms Davies said.

“We are very proud of the achievements made by all our students again this year and as a non-selective school are in an enviable position whereby our students have reached the tough criteria to enable us join the Gold Club.

“This is a result of hard work and commitment from our students and the staff at WSFG."

An invitation has also been extended to an Award Ceremony being held at the end of September. Schools must meet challenging criteria before they are invited to join the Gold.

The London Schools’ Gold Club, now in its third year, champions ‘exceptional’ schools in the capital.
