People are invited to turn the streets of Woodford Green orange as a children’s hospice counts down the days to the annual Halloween fundraiser.

Haven House Children’s Hospice is holding its Pumpkin Plod family fundraiser on October 25.

Both adults and children are encouraged to wear orange and dress up as pumpkins for its sponsored 2k, 5k and 10k walks, which start at The White House, in High Road, Woodford Green.

Britain’s Got Talent east London dance crew IMD Legion will help to get everyone ready by performing warm-up exercises from 2pm ahead of the start of the walks at 3pm.

Haven House will be selling an array of pumpkin products from head poppers to glow bands, leg warmers and everyone who registers will receive a free Pumpkin Plod T-shirt.

The walks are wheelchair friendly and kids can bring scooters.

Refreshments and sweets will also be provided along with games and pumpkins.

The 5k and 10k walks will take plodders up to Holly House Hospital in Buckhurst Hill before snaking back to Haven House.

There will be prizes for the best-dressed pumpkin and the pumpkin that raises the most funds.

Last year around 150 people took part in the inaugural Pumpkin Plod and Haven House hopes the number this year can reach 200.

Mike Palfreman, chief executive of Haven House, said: “We really want to see as many pumpkins as possible in our annual Pumpkin Plod and we are delighted that Holly House is sponsoring this year’s event.

“With three different routes, there is something for everyone.

“It is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon and to support local life-limited children and their families.

“Our staff and volunteers will be able to provide everything you need to become the perfect pumpkin.”
