A TENT city will be erected inside a Leytonstone church to show solidarity with the refugees from Syria.
The Leytonstone Salvation Army will be open 24 hours a day from between October 4 and 11 to allow people to pray for the thousands of displaced families scattered across Europe and their homeland.
In recent months, hundreds have died attempting to flee war and poverty, with hundreds -of-thousands more hoping to seek asylum in Europe.
The church and community centre on Southwell Grove Road will be transformed into an imitation of a refugee camp, with tents being erected inside the building.
Interactive craft stations will be set up with information on the current crisis.
Church leader, Captain Josh Selfe, said: “The images in the media of the refugee crisis are moving and shocking.
“When speaking to local residents about the news from Europe, many have been feeling helpless as we are so far removed from the situation.
“Our week of reflection and prayer for the refugee crisis will create an open space where anyone can come to learn more about the situation and respond in a way that helps them. Whether you have a faith or not, this is an opportunity for our community to come together in unity for those in need.”
The week of reflection ends at 1pm on October 11.
Anyone wanting to enter the building simply needs to knock.
Throughout the week there will be events, including concerts, bible studies and prayer breakfasts.
