Four bicycle lockers have been installed on a road after a school requested additional facilities to park their bikes.
The hangars, funded by Transport for London, were opened yesterday (October 5) at Christchurch Primary School, in Wellesley Road, Ilford.
Redbridge Labour councillor Baldesh Nijjar, cabinet member for environment and sustainability, was present at the unveiling of the first on-street cycle storage of their type in the borough.
The hangers offer an extra 24 additional cycle parking spaces, while the pavements in the area have also been replaced.
Yesterday was the first day of the borough’s Cycle to School Challenge, from October 5 to October 16, in which participating schools are challenged to generate as many trips to school by bicycle as they can.
There will also be a free Dr Bike session to check the children’s bikes and ensure they are safe to ride.
