A bus service that takes NHS staff between the district's three hospitals is being scrapped.

The service, which provided transport to staff between Watford General Hospital, St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital, ended last week.

In a statement, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust said the service cost £170,000 a year and was used by less than one per cent of staff.

The trust said: “The hospital’s executive team took the difficult decision in July 2015 to discontinue the inter-site bus service as from October 2015.

“Unfortunately, in the current financial climate, we simply cannot continue to provide this service, which costs more than £170,000 a year and is used by less than one per cent of our staff."

“This is clearly disappointing for the staff who use this service, however, there are public services which run between our hospital sites and staff were given three months advance notice in which to make alternative arrangements for getting to work.”
