A new business hub giving support and advice was officially opened yesterday.

Following a successful bid through the London Enterprise Panel, the new business hub is being delivered by Redbridge council as part of its New Homes Bonus.

Enterprise Desk supports businesses in the borough to develop and grow, helping to strengthen the local economy and create jobs.

It is based at Redbridge Central Library, in Clements Road, Ilford, and will be available until the end of June 2016.

Free support on offer includes use of online resources including books, journals, free Wi-Fi, access to workshops and training events.

Labour councillor Helen Coomb, cabinet member for economy, said: “Unlocking the economic potential of our borough is a key priority for us.

“Enterprise Desk will help local businesses to start up and grow, boosting the local economy.

“This is one of a number of regeneration projects we’re delivering to generate business opportunities, secure jobs and help to underpin Redbridge’s future prosperity.”

Emma Jones, founder of small business network Enterprise Nation, led a talk at the Enterprise Desk launch.

She said: “The world of business has changed beyond recognition.

“Technology means record numbers of people are starting-up businesses by making the most of a skill or passion - but often lack the basic skills.

“Research shows people who receive strategic early stage advice are more likely to succeed and build sustainable businesses for the future.

“These are people looking for others they can connect with, learn from, collaborate with and outsource to.

"Redbridge's Enterprise Desk initiative is a great example of how fledgling firms can access the support and knowledge they need to grow, which will in turn deliver a welcome boost to the local economy."
