A club has named its photographer of the year as it received tips from a Royal Photographic Society associate yesterday.
The Woodford and Wanstead Photographic Society presented Chris Saunders with the award for his photograph ‘Cullera Beach’ last night (October 19).
It was voted the overall winner at the club and Caroline Mockett, a Royal Photographic Society associate who also did a demonstration on how to capture water splashes, presented the trophy to Mr Saunders.
Explaining how he created the image, he said: “I came across this life guard's hut with a few palm trees around it on Cullera beach, Spain.
“It just seemed to be a photograph waiting to be taken.
“The original colours were very vivid so I converted the picture to black and white.
“I like the washed out look of hazy sunlight and the strong shadows of the trees.
“It looks as relaxed as I felt that afternoon”.
The club meets on a Monday evening fortnightly at Wanstead House, in The Green, Wanstead.
It is one of the oldest photographic societies in the country, being founded in 1893, and is a member of the East Anglian Federation and the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.
