A MOBO Award winning saxophonist and rapper will be one of the headliners at the first ever Waltham Forest jazz festival.

Soweto Kinch will star in the inaugural ForestBeats Jazz Festival along with pianist and singer Joe Stilgoe, acclaimed vocalist Annie Dehaney-Steven and the ever-popular Big Chris Barber Band.

The festival is expected to attract an audience of all ages with BabyJazz, a class for toddlers featuring jazzed up versions of children’s songs performed by singer Ruby Barker and guitarist Kim Murray.

Waltham Forest’s own version of the London Jazz Festival will take place at the same time as the bigger event.

Waltham Forest council leader, Chris Robbins, said: “Our culture team has put together a top class line-up that should appeal to jazz fans of all ages and interests, as well as offering a fantastic introduction for those less familiar with this genre of music.

"It really is a wonderful opportunity for residents and those travelling into the borough to sample the best that today’s jazz scene has to offer.”

The festival will take place at venues across Waltham Forest between November 17 and 30.
