NO CRIMINAL charges were ever brought against a teacher who has now been banned from the classroom for overpaying herself £130,000.

Ludiya Besisra, former head of Mission Grove School in Walthamstow was told after an NCTL teach disciplinary hearing she can no longer teach.

The panel found her guilty of overpaying herself, bullying staff, and manipulating governors into signing rule breaking requests.

She also employed an illegal immigrant as a teaching assistant and used a children’s centre set up by the school to aid her financial deception.

Besisra, head of the school between 2001 and 2010, and head of Sybourn School from 2006, was banned from ever teaching again.

The NCTL hearing panel said she did not seem to accept wrongdoing.

Cllr Mark Rusling, Waltham Forest council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said:

“Ludiya Besisira was suspended in January 2010, as soon as the douncil became aware that serious financial mismanagement was taking place, and she was subsequently dismissed.

“We fully support the recent decision by the National College for Teaching and Leadership to ban Ms Besisira from teaching indefinitely, which is clear vindication of the action taken by the council.”

But a Met police spokeswoman said no charges have been filed.

She said: “Police were contacted by the local authority in January 2010 regarding alleged fraud offences by a senior member of staff at a school in Walthamstow that took place between 2006 and 2010.

“No one was ever arrested or charged in relation to these offences.

“The investigation is still active and officers are in contact with the local authority.”
