Councillors will be asked to approve Andy Donald as the new chief executive of the council tonight (November 18).

The strategic director at Brent council in north London will replace the retiring Roger Hampson who has been chief executive for 15 years.

Mr Donald, who will also take up a position as head of the paid service, said: “I am hugely excited at the prospect of taking up the role chief executive of Redbridge.

“There will be many opportunities - and some challenges too - but in particular I am looking forward to working alongside politicians, staff, partners and local communities to ensure that we collectively make a difference to the lives of the residents of Redbridge."

His contract will be finalised after tonight's council meeting, where if approved, Mr Donald will join next year.

The departing Roger Hampson, who earned £193,301 last year, said he was delighted to welcome Mr Donald as his successor.

He said: “I look forward to collaborating with Andy over the coming weeks. There are some great people and interesting challenges in Redbridge and Andy will have my full support as he starts to take over the reins.”

Mr Donald is one of three strategic directors at Brent Council, managing housing, planning, regeneration, property and adult skills services.

Over a 20 year career Andy has led a number of high profile regeneration projects, including Wembley, Park Royal and South Kilburn.
