A PENSIONER was targeted by burglars after Storm Barney winds blew down the fence between a public walkway and his home – but the damage is yet to be repaired.

Last week 68-year-old Michael Christmas returned to his home in North Birkbeck Road from his son’s house to find the back of his garden completely exposed to a public car park.

He called Ascham Homes straight away and had a surveyor come out the following day.

But a week later the fence is still down.

His home can now be accessed from the path, and has already been targeted by would-be burglars once.

“I was laying in the front room watching telly with the light off and I saw something at the back door,” Mr Christmas recalls.

“I could see two of them, they were in the back garden then they started trying to back door

“I got up and went towards the door and they ran off. The police came and said I need to put some canvass or something up – but Ascham aren’t listening.”

Mr Christmas called Ascham Homes several times before they sent out a surveyor.

But there is no sign of any repairs being done.

“I have been calling Ascham Homes, so many times, but they just don’t seem to be listening.

“The surveyor said he needs to get the permission from someone else to re-order and get a new one.

“He said it would cost £2,500.

“A week and they haven’t done a thing. My house is completely exposed and I’m a pensioner.”

Ascham Homes’ contractors Osborne did a ‘temporary fix’ on the fence to keep it up, which involved two planks of wood being out across the gap.

“I think because they are going back to the council soon that they are just waiting for that,” Mr Christmas added.
