ISIS sympathising women whose radical preaching was uncovered in a documentary this week have been meeting at a Walthamstow venue for over two years, it has been revealed.

The women aired extreme views and suggested Muslims should go to support the Khalifah (Islamic State) in Syria.

They have been meeting in the Asian Centre in Orford Road each week – a venue owned by the council.

A Channel 4 documentary uncovered the radical group, airing undercover footage on Monday.

During the filming a woman named Umm Saalihah can be seen praising ISIS and radical preachers, and criticising the bombing of IS.

A sign was posted on the door of the Asian Centre yesterday, telling members the group will not be allowed back.

Abed Mallam, building management officer for the centre said they were not aware of what the group was discussing.

He said: “We have now cancelled all of their bookings.

“When they booked they were asked if they were associated with any particular group in the area and she said it was just a private booking for women friends.

“When the women were in the room they take off their veils so only other women were allowed in.

“We had no idea what they were talking about until we saw the documentary.

“We have been in touch with the council and the police and we are bettering our booking practices from now on.”

Chairman of the centre, Faiz Yunis said: “We are a open, inclusive and transparent community centre and organisation that builds bridges. We hire our centre in good faith and do not discriminate.

“All other groups are entitled to privacy and we respect that.”

Since the building is owned by the council and investigation has been launched.

A council spokesperson said: “The claims made in the documentary are very concerning to both the council and the Metropolitan Police, who we understand are making their own enquiries.

“As a result of the programme, the Police and council officers visited the centre yesterday to give clear direction on how to deal with such issues, and future lettings to this group have been cancelled.

“The Centre is owned by the council, and Waltham Forest Community Hub are the tenants of the building.

“Our policy regarding community venues clearly states that we do not tolerate anyone using any facility for extremist purposes.

“In the coming days, the council will be liaising with the Police and considering its position in relation to the centre.”
