A group of Wanstead artists joined the March for Climate Justice and Jobs yesterday (November 29).

The banner, which was made by the group including Francesca Jaggs, Mike Edwards and Kathy Taylor, took to the streets with 70,000 other people in London and 500,000 worldwide.

It was to demand action from world leaders on climate change at the UN Paris talks over the next two weeks.

The conference known as COP21, the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, aims to reach an agreement of action on climate change by reducing world fossil fuel consumption.

They came up with the idea during September’s Wanstead Art trail, which had the theme ‘We Are the Environment’.

The banner includes the work of seven artists from the area who volunteered to contribute.

Kathy said: “Our banner was a great focus, made a big impact and drew many compliments.

“It may be the first time Wanstead has had its own banner on a London March, so we were making history.

“We will be keeping up the fight for a just and liveable planet for all and Wanstead will be part of that fight.”
