AROUND 450 homes could be built on an underused car-park site after developers reveal their vision tomorrow night.

Land at South Grove in Walthamstow was once set to become a huge supermarket, but talks fell through with both Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.

The South Grove area is made up of the former St. James Street car park, the Health Centre site, the Brunner Road industrial area and the South Grove car park.

Residents were then looking forward to a new community centre with houses, but the council left talks with a women’s charity.

Earlier this year, it was announced the development is “on track” after Morrisons withdrew from talks and sold the site to a joint venture between Osprey Equity Partners and Hadley Property Group.

A Draft Supplementary Planning Document has been produced over the future of the area, around St James Street.

Now, Hadley is ready to give a pre-presentation on the site at the council’s planning committee meeting, tomorrow.

The group wants to demolish part of the adjacent industrial estate, including the Alpha Business Centre.

One of the buildings could be 11 storeys tall and homes will range in size between studio flats and family houses.

Danielle Torpey, a senior development manager at Hadley Property Group, said: “We believe there is a fantastic opportunity at South Grove to revitalise this part of the town centre with new homes for Londoners, including affordable housing, as well as new landscaped public spaces in a car-free and cycle-friendly development.

“We want to ensure local people benefit from our proposals, so while we are at this early stage in the design process please do come along to one of our public exhibitions and tell us what you think.”

Other features in the “car free” development will be landscaped public spaces and a cafe or shop.

And Hadley states is exploring the possibility of building a new health centre in the local area, replacing the existing St James Street health centre.

No decision will be made until a planning application is formerly submitted and considered.
