Green-fingered gardeners have been encouraged to have a go at tending their own fruit and vegetables on an allotment patch.

With plots available in Castle Street, Ongar, and Moreton Road, Shelley, Ongar Town Council hopes they can be put to good use.

Councillor Alison Wingfield said: “Renting an allotment is ideal for anyone looking for a hobby that will keep them fit, give access to fresh air and good company - as well as providing you with fresh fruit and vegetables.”

The council will be holding its Best Kept Allotment award again next year.

Allotment rent costs £38 per year.
