A man who drunkenly abused cabin crew after boarding a flight for a Las Vegas ‘stag party’ has been ordered to pay more than £2,000.

Epping man Neil Young, 37, was arrested on May 22 shortly after boarding the Virgin Atlantic flight from Gatwick airport.

Having drunk ‘heavily’ with the rest of the party in the airport, Young started verbally abusing crew on the plane.

He was asked to exit the aircraft while police made enquiries, and he was refused travel by the Captain.

Young was then restrained after becoming abusive towards police, and again towards the cabin crew.

Appearing at Horsham Magistrates’ Court in Sussex on December 8 and 9, Young was ordered to pay Virgin Atlantic £1,051 for delaying the flight.

One charge of common assault and another against him of assault were dismissed after no evidence was offered.

However, he pleaded guilty to one charge of using threatening behaviour to cause alarm or distress and another charge of being drunk onboard an aircraft.

As well as compensation to Virgin, Young was ordered to pay £435 for being drunk onboard an aircraft, £300 for being drunk and disorderly, a £120 victim surcharge, a criminal court charge of £150 and £85 costs.
