Stella Creasy MP has urged the Prime Minister to help after a Walthamstow family of 11 were refused travel to Disneyland by the USA.

Mohammad Tariq Mahmood, who was travelling with his brother and nine of their children aged between eight and 19, was turned away from the flight from Gatwick to Los Angeles on December 15.

Stella Creasy, the Labour MP for Walthamstow, has written to David Cameron after the family were approached by officials from USA’s homeland security as they queued in the departure lounge.

They were told their authorisation to travel had been cancelled and were not given any further explanation.

The Walthamstow British Muslim family were given travel authorisation online some weeks before their scheduled December 15 flight.

Despite the lack of explanation for why the family was being escorted out of the airport, Mr Mahmood told the Guardian he believed it was because of his religion.

He said: “It’s because of the attacks on America – they think every Muslim poses a threat.”

“I have never been more embarrassed in my life. I work here, I have a business here. But we were alienated.”

Mr Mahmood said the children were devastated after counting down the days to the trip for months to Disneyland.

He also claimed the airline would not refund the £9,000 cost of their flights.

Ms Creasy believes a lack of information from USA authorities about why they were prevented from travelling is fuelling resentment within British Muslim communities.

This comes after Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, called for all Muslims to be stopped from entering the United States.

Ms Creasy told the Guardian: "It is not just the family themselves who are livid.

"The vacuum created by a refusal to provide any context for these decisions is fuelling resentment and debate.

"Online and offline discussions reverberate with the growing fear UK Muslims are being 'trumped' - that widespread condemnation of Donald Trump’s call for no Muslim to be allowed into America contrasts with what is going on in practice."

Ms Creasy said she had hit a "brick wall" in her own inquiries and has asked Mr Cameron to press US officials for an explanation as to why the Walthamstow family were prevented from flying.

A Downing Street spokesman confirmed the Prime Minister would consider the issues and respond in due course.
