Police arrested the woman who was driving the car in John Drinkwater Close, Leytonstone.
An elderly woman was killed today in a residential street after being hit by a car.
Police were called at 12.19pm this afternoon (January 12) to John Drinkwater Close, Leytonstone.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene after a car crashed into her.
The woman driver of the car was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.
The road remains closed and police enquiries continue.
