An exhibition raising awareness of FGM is set to tour Waltham Forest.
London women Hibo Wardere, Leyla Hussein and Alimatu Dimonekene, were painted by artist Emma Scutt.
The exhibition is to raise awareness and campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation.
Ms Scutt also interviewed each of them and wrote their stories to display alongside the paintings.
She said: “These inspiring women are survivors, not victims.
“FGM does not define them.
“They are mothers, wives, daughters, friends, successful career women and campaigners.
“In my portraits I’ve painted them looking away from the darkness and towards the light.
“It's been an honour and a privilege to meet them and hear their stories.
“It's my hope that they will help to raise awareness, to prompt discussion, and to educate about the barbaric practice of FGM.”
The exhibition kicks off this evening (January 21) at William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, though the event is sold out.
The portraits will then tour three Waltham Forest libraries, culminating in a talk event at Walthamstow Central Library on March 3 featuring all three women, to celebrate International Women's Day.
