A range of LGBT events are set to be held in a month of celebration across Waltham Forest.

Teaming up with community arts organisations, Salon Outré and Nick Walters Performance Projects, Waltham Forest council is set to tell the stories of local LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) residents through art and craft activities.

Salon Outré director and LGBT Ambassador, Dan Vo, said: “It’s a unique and exciting opportunity to bring the community together in a family friendly environment.

“LGBT History Month is about sharing stories and celebrating diversity.

“It’s a great platform to open up dialogue, as well as increase awareness to challenge homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.”

There will be a series of free ‘Crafternoon Tea’ events, dance and music workshops, visual arts and performance.

People are also invited to get creative with local artists, share their experiences and contribute to an LGBT Histories Community Mural.

Council Leader Chris Robbins said: “The events taking place during LGBT History Month are not only engaging and informative, but they also promise to be a real celebration of diversity – something we absolutely champion here in Waltham Forest.

“I would encourage residents of all backgrounds and from all walks of life to come together as a community in order to take part.”

Full programme details will be released on February 1.
