More 20mph signs will be installed on a road where campaigners say high volumes of traffic and speeding cars risk people's safety.

Giles Hodsgon, 37, of Prospect Road, Woodford Green, and his neighbours say traffic problems keep elderly people trapped in their homes and put children’s at risk.

Following a full council meeting on Thursday January 21, Redbridge Council agreed to install more 20mph signs to help combat the problem.

A council spokesman said: “The council is planning to install 20mph repeater signs on lamp columns and large '20' signs marked on the road itself in Prospect Road and West Grove. The council is working on this matter now and expect the signs to be installed in the next few weeks.”

Mr Hodgson said: “I think it’s positive the council is implementing the measures they promised after the 2011 consultation. But the situation has moved on since then, and I think we need more robust measures.

“I think the promise of the council leader, to come with highways officers to talk to residents about the problems, is the right step now.”
