Plans for luxury flats which neighbours claimed could “cause a tidal wave of destruction” will be debated tonight (February 3).
Applicant Robert Davis had proposed a new “classically inspired” five-flat building in Stradbroke Drive, Chigwell, which will be considered at an Epping Forest District Council meeting.
With an indoor cinema, gym and underground car park, the 15-bedroom detached development would replace an already grand five-bedroom house and outdoor swimming pool.
The scheme has faced intense opposition, with Chigwell Parish Council ‘strongly objecting’ to the plans and a protesting petition receiving 37 signatures.
Complaints cover the size and design of the flats, and the potential for more developers to follow if Mr Davis’ plan is approved.
Despite the level of opposition council officers have backed the plans, writing that “the spacious flats, with ample parking provision… would not alter the character of the wider area to an extent that would justify refusal.”
District councillors will debate the plans at tonight’s meeting, running from 7.30pm at Roding Valley High School.
Want to know which way councillors vote on the plans? Reporter Joseph Flaig will report on the result tomorrow (February 4).
