A playground campaign has received over £6,000 from a supermarket foundation, bringing them closer to their overall target.
The Wanstead Playground Association received a £6,335 cheque from the Morrisons Foundation today, which will fund a new wheelchair accessible roundabout for the playground on Christchurch Green.
Chairman Sarah Boud said: “It’s brilliant that the Morrisons Foundation has decided to support us.
“The playground is currently not accessible at all, so the new roundabout will be great for all children to enjoy.”
The roundabout will be installed at floor level to allow easy access for wheelchair users and their carers.
Deputy store manager at Morrisons Chingford, Mark Jones, said: “I know everyone was keen to help with this very worthy cause.
“It’s such a good idea to fundraise money for better play equipment for children, so we’re happy to help.”
Wanstead Playground Association secretary, Nicola Jarratt, said: “The fact that the foundation’s money is enough to buy and install a whole piece of equipment is fantastic.”
The money brings the campaigners’ fundraising total to £93,000, with £17,000 still to go.
Mrs Boud said: “We are hopeful that the council will still come through with their support so we can achieve our target and have everything installed by mid-April.”
Redbridge Council pledged to give up to £19,500 to the playground association earlier this month.
