A hospital that is in special measures is reviewing its services to try to provide better care.

Barts Health NHS Trust, Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), NEFLT NHS Foundation Trust and Waltham Forest Council are working together to try to improve services at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone.

The hospital's last Care Quality Commission received a worrying 'special measures' status.

As part of the Transforming Services Together programme, a team of experts will assess the hospital estate and services including mental health, social care and wellbeing.

Chief Executive of Barts Health Alwen Williams said: “We are committed to maintaining hospital services for our local patients at Whipps Cross, but recognise that many of the buildings on the site are no longer fit for purpose.

“We are working closely with the council, commissioners and other partners to find an affordable long-term solution that meets the future health needs of a local population that is growing and changing."
