A children’s hospice wants more local nurses so it can care for 500 children every year.

Haven House Children’s Hospice in High Road, Woodford Green has said it wants to recruit more NHS band five/six nurses from the surrounding area so it can meet their Vision 2020 target of caring for 500 children a year.

Director of Care at Haven House, Eileen White said: “Parents tell us that our compassionate and enthusiastic nurses make the world of difference to their lives.

“So we need more nurses and healthcare support workers to respond to families’ need for respite and also support children who have increasingly complex health needs.”

Eileen, who joined Haven House in 2012, said she wants to counter the misconception that working in a hospice is a ‘lesser’ job for nurses than working in a hospital.

“Our team has to be highly skilled to care for children with complex medical needs who are often completely dependent on others, making us at the forefront of innovative paediatric palliative care.”
