Sibling harmony will come into play at the Barbican on Friday.
Sisters Orlaith and Brogan McAuliffe from Enfield will both be performing as part of the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland which is making its UK debut at the venue.
It is made up of the best classical and traditional Irish folk musicians from Ireland and the UK.
Flautist Orlaith studies medicine at Imperial College London and recently won the TG4 Young Traditional Musician of the Year award, and has been crowned All Ireland Champion 19 times. She also performs in her band Cross Harbour and a function group called Ceilde Max.
Concertina player Brogan studies Biomedical Science at Sheffield, and will be performing at the St Patrick’s Day Parade in March with her traditional Irish folk band The London Lasses & Chris O’Malley in front of a crowd of 250,000.
The sisters, who were born in London to parents from Kerry in Ireland, both regularly tour with the folk orchestra throughout Ireland, as well as performing as a duet and with their own bands.
On Friday as part of the orchestra they will perform the premiere of Macalla 1916 by acclaimed composer Michael Rooney to mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising.
