The sister of a woman raped and murdered seven years ago wants justice and the man accused of killing her to be deported from India.

Michelle Samaraweera, 32, was found dead in Queens Road children's playground, Walthamstow, in May 2009.

Ann Chandarasa’s #Justice4Michelle campaign coincides with yesterday's International Woman’s Day and is being supported by Walthamstow’s Labour MP, Stella Creasy.

Stella Creasy raised awareness for the campaign last Saturday during a march tackling street harassment against women.

Ms Chandarasa’s statement was read out at the MP’s feminist bootcamp which followed the march.

It read: “It has been a very slow and frustrating process and this is all to do with the political issues surrounding his extradition.

“We need to have closure, we need to get him back on UK soil and we need your continued support.”

The accused, 31-year-old Aman Vyas, was arrested five years ago by Interpol in New Delhi airport and has since been released on bail awaiting deportation to the UK.

Stella and Michelle’s family are urging supporters to share the #Justice4Michelle campaign on social media as they prepare a protest outside the Indian High Commission.
