A CHESS playing school in Chingford is celebrating after one of its pupils triumphed in a major competition.
Gvidas Orolovas, 13, a pupil at Rush Croft School, Rushcroft Road, won the Mega Final X of the Essex under-13s section of the British Land UK Chess Challenge 2007.
Seven pupils, including Gvidas, qualified for the next round of the competition which will be held in Berkshire.
Yvonne Morris, the school's chess co-ordinator, said: "Gvidas was absolutely over the moon. He couldn't wait to tell me. We have a chess club and the improvement the pupils have made is astronomical."
She added that chess had helped with discipline at the school because the game has a fixed set of rules which are the same for everyone.
