STEVENAGE Borough hitman Jon Nurse is set to join Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 26-year-old striker is among three players manager John Still is hoping to sign within the next two weeks to boost his squad ahead of the club's first Football League campaign.

Defender Tim Cole, midfielder Paul Bruce and frontman Cliff Akurang were all allowed to leave Victoria Road last week, with striker Sean Batt transfer-listed.

Nurse joined Stevenage from Sutton United in 2004 and also had a loan spell with Woking.

Boro chairman Phil Wallace said: "We came to an agreement with Dagenham earlier this month and we expect Jon to be playing for them next season.

"He's been great for us since he joined. Dagenham have always liked him and Jon now has the chance to play in the Football League next season."

Thirty-year-old Cole, who made over 300 appearances for the Daggers in a ten-year spell, has signed for Thurrock FC in the Blue Square South League - formerly the Conference South.

The former club captain was widely expected to depart ahead of the club's step up to the Football League as, with a young family and a job at Spitalfields market, he is thought not to relish the prospect of weekly journeys up and down the country for matches at this stage in his career.

Bruce, joined from Queens Park Rangers in August 2002 and played over 120 games.

Striker Akurang, who spent the last three months of his season on loan at Thurrock where his goals helped save the Rocks from relegation, has joined newly promoted Blue Square Premier (formerly the Nationwide Conference) side Histon.

Former Stevenage striker Batt had loan spells at St Albans City and East Thurrock United last season.
