The Conservative candidate in a councillor by-election has promised to tackle the chronic lack of school places in her campaign.

The Redbridge Conservatives today announced that their candidate for the Roding by-election on May 5 will be Ruth Clark, after Cllr Sarah Blaber stepped down from the ward last week.

Ms Clark has already been a Redbridge councillor, representing Aldborough ward for eight years.

She said: “I am especially keen to campaign for more school places to give local parents a real choice.

“I know Roding well, having worked hard previously to protect in on the planning committee, and I will work hard over the next month to win the trust of local residents.”

Conservative group leader, Cllr Paul Canal, said he was delighted at Ms Clark’s selection and is ‘keen to get her back on the council’.

Roding is currently represented by Liberal Democrat councillors Ian Bond and Gwyneth Deakins.

The Liberal Democrat and Labour groups are yet to announce their candidates.
