A hostel resident who exposed himself to a member of staff outside his room is facing jail.

Gavin Irish, 34, showed up at the front desk of his accommodation in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton and approached the woman on duty claiming he was locked out of his room.

She used the rear reception exit having found Irish's past behaviour intimidating and found him waiting outside his room with his underwear and trousers halfway down his legs.

Prosecutor, Edward Aydin, told the court: “He touches his penis and says 'Come, Miss'”

She told him to pull his pants up before letting him into the room.

The next day he followed two other female members of staff around the premises before again attempting to expose himself.

Irish tried blocking one of them and moved to hug her in a hallway.

Mr Aydin added: “He then started gyrating his crotch area, moving up and down, towards the second victim”.

Irish, of Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, greeted the bench and counsel with a “hello” as he appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court charged with a single count of harassment on Tuesday (March 5).

Mr Aydin said: “These actions have caused distress to all parties involved and caused them to feel harassed at their place of work.”

After initially declining to see a solicitor, Irish was asked if there was anything he would like to say.

He told the bench: “I'm speechless, sir, I don't know what to say.”

The court heard that Irish is currently serving a 28-day prison recall stemming from unrelated matters.

Magistrate Robert Jackson opted to adjourn the case until April 27 for a pre-sentence report along with victim impact statements to be prepared.

He told Irish: “It is an all-options report which does not exclude custody – so custody is an option”.

Irish was remanded in custody ahead of sentence at Thames Magistrates' Court on April 27.
