Parents and their councillor have expressed their outrage over a pedestrian crossing that was promised two years ago but has still not been built.

After Woodbridge High School in St Barnabas Road, Woodford Green was extended in 2014, parents and residents were promised an extra pedestrian crossing to accommodate greater numbers of pupils crossing the road.

A recent Highways Department survey has shown a crossing is most needed near the junction with Gordon Road where children from schools such as Woodbridge, Oakdale and Churchfields cross the road with their parents.

After two years of no action, Roding Ward Councillor Gwyneth Deakins has organised a protest to put pressure on Redbridge Council to resolve the safety issues.

She said: “It’s extremely frustrating that two years after the crossing was promised, nothing has been done.

“There are clearly a huge number of children crossing the road in the area, not just those going to Woodbridge, but primary schools like Oakdale and Churchfields, as well nurseries.

“It’s a matter of serious concern that these children can’t cross the road safely, and I will continue to push until something is done.”

The protest will take place at the Gordon Road junction of St Barnabas Road this Thursday April 14 at 3.50pm.

Redbridge Council has been contacted for comment.
