The Green Party has put forward a candidate in a council by-election just three weeks ahead of the vote.

The Waltham Forest and Redbridge Green Party announced this weekend that Barry Cooper will be its candidate in the Roding by-election on May 5.

Mr Cooper has lived in nearby Hainault for over 40 years and has worked for the European Union in the Netherlands, among other posts in the travel industry.

He said: “I am delighted to have been selected as the Green Party candidate for Roding.

“At local level, Roding has been affected by all of the serious issues that face Greater London today. We’ve reached crisis point, most notably on housing but also on transport and air pollution.”

On the recent revelation that Charlie Brown’s Roundabout in South Woodford is four times more polluted than Oxford Street, Mr Cooper added: “It is time for drastic measures to be put in place to protect Roding residents, who have had to put up with this intolerable situation for many years.

“If elected, I promise to work tirelessly within Redbridge council towards securing imaginative and affordable solutions to the many challenges facing our borough today.”

Mr Cooper is also a nominee for the Green Party London Assembly list for 2016.

He will go up against Labour’s Lloyd Duddridge, Conservative ex-councillor Ruth Clark and Liberal Democrat candidate Rich Clare in the Roding by-election in three weeks.
